Hydrology Monitoring Program Changes
Dear Ms. Johnson:
The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article 33, Section 116,
Paragraph 4, of the Colomdo Revised Statutes, that on May 17, 2007, an application to revise coal mining operations at the
Seneca II Mine was considered complete for the purposes of filing. The revision was submitted by Seneca Coal Company. All
review and comment periods as provided in the Act and the Regulations initiate from this date of filing.
This technical revision proposes changes to the hydrology monitoring program to include a reduction in monitoring frequencies
of select streams, springs, and wells. These reduced monitoring frequencies would be continued until a year or two before fmal
bond release, at which time monitoring frequencies would be increased. The operator has requested no new disturbed acreage
with this revision application.
The surface coal mining operation is on land located approximately 9 miles Southeast of Hayden, Colomdo. The permit area is
further described as follows:
TSN, R87W; A11 of Sections 1, 2 and 12; Portions of Sections 3, 11 and 13
T6N, R87W; Portions of Sections 27, 34, 35 and 36
TSN, R86W; Portions of Sections 6 and 7,
The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Milner and Moun[ Hams.
The applicant is required to publish notice in a local newspaper that this application has been deemed complete. At the time of
publication of this notice, the applicant is additionally required to place a copy of this application at the Hayden Public Library,
P.O. Box 1813, Hayden, CO 81639-1813, and at the Division office. For additional information or to provide written
comments, contact the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety, Room 215, 1313 Sherman Street, Denver, Colomdo 80203,
[phone]. In order for us to comply with regulatory time frames, we request that comments be submitted within fifteen
(15) days of this letter. If no comments are received by then, we will proceed on the assumption that you have no concerns
with, or objections to, the applicant's proposal.
