You state in your letter that the above three referenced pits did expose ground
water prior to 1981 .
The DMG field inspections indicate that these three pits are active. Therefore, the
possibility exists that the amount of ground water exposure in a given pit has increased since
December 31 , 1980, which would require a well permit and substitute supply or augmentation
plan. In order to provide assurance that this is not the case please provide to our office: a
statement giving the number of acres of exposed ground water which existed in each pit as
of December 31, 1980, copies of aerial photographs documenting these acreages, and a
statement that the exposures have not increased.
I regret that my earlier letter was not more specific in requesting this information.
Upon our receiving the above the matter should be closed.
Sincerely,
;~~~ Z ::•~~~ i i~ _~ ~
Keith Vander Horst
Water Resources Engineer
KVH:riogrand.wp
cc: James Dillie, ` %'
Steve Vandiver, Division Engineer
Steve Baer, Water Commissioner
