Memorandum
J
To: Joe Dudish
From: Sandy Brown
Date: 12/29/98
Re: Soil and Vegetation Review for Bowie TR-6
• iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
I looked at the additional area proposed in TR-6 last summer. All additional area is
south of the road. An old dump is in the draw on the western boundary and
foundations from the old town are east of the dump. Previous disturbance of the
area is clearly evident. With respect to the information you gave me, I have a couple
of comments.
General
The proposed additional permit acreage is 6 acres. In Matt Hayes report, he says the
proposed disturbance will be limited to1.7 acres. Do these numbers coincide with
the
rest of the TR application?
Vegetation
I did walk the proposed additional area last summer. Based on my site visit, and the
limited extent of the proposed disturbance (L7 acres), I said no additional sampling
would be necessary.
The vegetation report in the application provides a qualitative discussion of the
proposed additional area. The vegetation is comparable to the lower meadow
community that was adequately sampled in the baseline study. The community is
dominated by annual, biannual and noxious weed species. No threatened or
endangered species were found in the additional area. The vegetation map has been
revised [o include the area and it is appropriately designated as [he meadow
community.
Soils
A soil survey was conducted on the proposed additional area. Two samples were
taken as shown on the revised soil map (Map 04). The soils are similar to those
reported in the baseline study as the "Meadow" series, a typic Haplorgid. This is
considered to be a good quality soil for reclamation purposes. The information
provided with the TR application is adequate for baseline purposes.
