The minimum separation from any man-made structures, including the
agricultural storage lagoon, to the north edge of the gravel pit was addressed. The depth
of the storage lagoon, existing and proposed topography, and soil types at the site aze all
important factors used to determine the needed separation distance.
From the original design documents, the storage lagoon has a 20' depth (181iquid
depth with 2' freeboard). The berm closest to the gravel pit is approximately 10' wide
and 2' above the adjoining grade outside of the lagoon. The adjoining grade extends 65't
to where the edge of the gravel pit is desired. Other man-made structures at the
agricultural site aze barns and grain bins. All of these structures aze farther from the
proposed gravel pit than the south berm of the lagoon. The gravel pit will-be-sloped at a
maximum 3 to 1 slope from this point. The inside of the lagoon is also sloped at a 4 to 1
slope. The lagoon is lined with a clay, liner. The soil in the azea is a gravelly sand.
The existing azea where the gravel pit is to be located is a sloped azea with many
ravines in the gravelly sand soil. Some of these ravines appeaz to be deeper than the
proposed final slope grade. The "fingers" between the ravines are to be removed for their
gravel. The final slope of the azea is to be kept at a maximum 3 to I slope after the azea
is mined.
