~-
Some offsite materials presently buttress the pond somewhat, and their removal
may affect structural stability. At present though, since he is not milling, the pond
rarely has more than a foot of water in its lowest corner, and it's stormwater.
There is not a lot of available fill on the site, to be used for post-mining grading.
Loose materi9l is almost all mineralized, and probably unsuitable for use as
structural containment, neutral capping, growth medium; most of probably
contains ferrous and wooden debris, and who knows what else...
Adjacent offsite areas contain old wood structures (one of which is occupied by
the "caretaker"), concrete pads, stone and brick foundations, walls, cribbing,
debris, sub-ore, and pipelines and flumes. There's even a dam or two just
upstream. Underground openings on the site consist of the Ule shaft (potential
u/g tailings disposal location, and recent water sampling point), and the (Ule?)
5th level portal, though it's not used. Offsite openings are numerous, and include
the Ute shaft, 3rd level portal, and others uphill (see map). Olosures might be
fairly simple, since all openings I am aware of are dry.
3. Lance's EPP does state that tailings would be disposed of underground. You
are correct, however, in that he cannot and will not commence such disposal until
he clears up everything with EPA first. The file shows that if he provides
evidence of the EPA permit and otherwise his plan and safeguards are sufficient,
we will evaluate the plan and make a decision.
Operating the mill requires that he have a disposal plan, and surtace disposal is
not feasible on this small-sized site of steep narrow benches. Presently, he's
trucking his high grade to Helena, and he's not milling anyone else's ore.
I know there are still a lot of holes in our knowledge of the general area. These
paragraphs probably do not add much if anything to what you know. If there is
anything I can answer, by permit file research, contacting Lance, or site
investigation, let me know. Thanks again and let me know what happens. -Bob
