Box 628 <br />Nucla, CO 81424 ' <br />Subject: Prairie dog surveys on the New Horizon Mine, Nucla, Montrose <br />County, Colorado <br />Mr. Gubka: <br />The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) will not require prairie dog or <br />black-footed ferret surveys to be conducted on the New Horizon Mine if the <br />site has been accurately described as an agricultural area with only scattered <br />pockets of prairie dog colonies. If Western Fuels plans on expanding the size <br />of the coal mine beyond the permit renewal area described in Tommy Raye's <br />letter dated February 26, 1993 (permit number C-81-008) then the Service <br />should be consulted to determine if prairie dog surveys will be required and <br />what other impacts may occur to the area. <br />Since ely, <br />eith L.
