III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
999
STATE OF COLORADO
DIVISION OF MINERALS AND GEOLOGY
DeparlmeN of Natural Resources
1513 Sherman 51., Rrwm ?15
Denver, Colorado NO?OJ
Phone 1303) 866-3567
FAX: 13(13) A3?-8106
DATE: January 6, 1997
TO: Erica Crosby
FROM: Dan Mathews C
RE: Munger Cost Estimate Items, TR-11
Permit No. C-81-020
~~~
DEPAR'T'MENT OF
NATURAL
RESOURCES
Roy Romer
Governor
I, men S Lochhead
Execulioe Director
Michael B Long
Drv ismn Director
I took some measurements at the Munger Loma Loadout per your
request on December 31, 1996, to verify volumes for cost estimate
purposes. I concur with the operator's estimate of coal stockpile
volume of 236 cubic yards as listed on Task 15, page 17 of the
amended application. However, I estimated a total volume of 819
cubic yards of coal fines on the surface of the pad area (based on
an area 650'x60', with average coal fines depth of 6", and a second
area 350'x30', with an average coal fines depth of 3"). Also,
based on a 1 foot surficial layer of coaly material on each of the
three ramps, I estimated a total of 314 cubic yards of coaly
material on the ramps (Ramp 1: 75'x60', Ramp 2: 60'x40', Ramp 3:
45'x35').
In all, I estimate a total volume of 1,369 cubic yards of coaly
material, versus 547 cubic yards estimated by the operator. The
estimate on page 17 indicates that "gravel exposed after the coal
has been removed [from the ramps] will be spread along the siding
to provide a firm base for siding users. I estimate a total volume
of 645 cubic yards of non-coal material in the three ramps.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
PS. With respect to the revegetation failure rate, I believe 25$
would be appropriate, given the fact that precipitation ie
significantly higher than at other Grand Junction Mines (such a~
Fruita and Roadside), soils are generally of good quality, and the
major portion of the revegetation will be on north facing slopes.
Previously conducted interim vegetation on the road outslopes and
the soil stockpiles has been quite successful.
