We will prepare an estimate of those
costs for which you are proposing significant changes (compazed to the permit application's existing
2004 estimate). We need the following additional information before we can prepare our estimate.
Our first two comments are asked simply to clarify information in the submittal.
1. Please explain how recovering the 1,000 cyds of spoil in Task 1 will eliminate the need for
moving the 11,220 cyds of material in existing Task 2.
2. Task 8 (North Pit revegetation) refers to Task 90 (mob/demob). Is this reference to Task 90
just a typographical error? If not, please explain how Task 90 reduces the proposed estimate of
North pit revegetation compared to the existing estimate.
We ask the following questions in order to verify that tasks include all completed work that has not yet
gone through the bond release process.
3. What volume amounts were used in the proposed estimates for Tasks 5 and 7?
4. In Task 24, what amount of riprap will be purchased and what amount will be obtained onsite?
5. Why will tasks 22, 28, 29, and 30 not be needed?
6. Please explain why regrading of the Old Carbon Junction Diversion (Task 40) is no longer
applicable.
Sincerely,

Tom Kaldenbach
Environmental Protection Specialist
cc: Dan Hernandez, CDMG
Office of Office of Colorado
Mined Land Reclamation Active and Inactive Mines Geological Survey
