• The results of these Amendment No. 8 investigations indicate the following: <br />• as with Amendment No. 7, Amendment No. 8 surface mining activities aze <br />not expected to cause a meaningful change to the hydrologic behavior of the <br />system; <br />• the overburden mined under Amendment No. 8 is not expected to be acid <br />generating; <br />• additional information collected on the diatreme confirms previous <br />geochemical characterizations and indicates that water infiltrating through the <br />diatreme will contact up to 2,000 feet of neutralizing rock before reaching the <br />Carlton Tunnel; and <br />• Amendment No. 8 activities aze not expected to have a substantial effect on <br />zinc concentrations in the Carlton Tunnel. <br />The information derived from the ground water hydrology and geochemistry <br />• investigations conducted by SMI and ABC was considered during development of the <br />mining and reclamation plans for Amendment No. 8. <br />4.6 Environmental Settine <br />This section discusses the environmental characteristics ofthe site relative to the <br />requirements of the MLRB's Rule 6.4 for Exhibit G (Water Information), Exhibit H <br />(Wildlife Information), Exhibit I (Soils Infotmation), Exhibit J (Vegetation Information), <br />and Exhibit K (Climate). As previously discussed, much of the information is the same <br />as that previously presented and approved and will be summarized here for ease of <br />review.
