4.0 PHYSICAL BACKGROUND
•
4.1 Location
There have been no changes in the general site location from previously approved
documents; however, that information is provided in this section for ease of review.
The Cresson Project area is located southwest of Pikes Peak in southern Teller
County, Colorado. The center of the permit area lies approximately 2 miles southeast of
Cripple Creek, Colorado and approximately 1 '/< miles north of Victor, Colorado although
the permit boundary lies closer to both towns. The mine area lies entirely within the
District. Public meetings were held in Cripple Creek and Victor to discuss Amendment
No. 8 prior to submittal.
The total acreage encompassed within the permit boundary will increase from
• approximately 4,232 acres under Amendment No. 7 to approximately 5,847 acres under
Amendment No. 8. Several holdings within the boundary which previously were not
controlled by CC&V are now under CC&V's control. As a result, these areas are no
longer excluded from the permit boundary. The permit boundary lies outside the area of
planned disturbance in all cases, both as currently approved and as planned for
Amendment No. 8. Exhibit A of this application contains the legal description of the
permit area including those areas currently approved and those proposed as part of
Amendment No. 8.
The changes in permit boundary proposed as part of Amendment No. 8, as well as
the currently approved areas, all lie within the District, that is, within the general azea that
has been mined since the late 1 SOOs. The operations are conducted entirely onprivately-
owned lands, with both the surface and minerals held in private ownership. Land
ownership is presented on Drawing C-1 and listed in Exhibit O. CC&V's legal right to
enter these privately-owned lands is outlined in Exhibit N. There aze small sections of
• public land managed by the Bureau of Land Management ("BLM") and a section of state-
t2
