3.0 BACKGROUND INFORMATION
•
The Cresson Project is ajoint venture between AngloGold (Colorado)
Corporation, formerly known as Pikes Peak Mining Company, and Golden Cycle Gold
Corporation. This joint venture is designated CC&V. AngloGold (Colorado)
Corporation is a wholly owned subsidiary of AngloGold North America Inc., formerly
known as Independence Mining Company Inc. AngloGold (Colorado) Corporation is the
managing agent for the joint venture and operates the site.
CC&V has operated in the District since 1976. The company and its operations
have directly and indirectly benefited the District and the communities of Cripple Creek,
Victor, and Goldfield. In addition to the direct benefits of employment and payment of
wages, benefits, and taxes, CC&V has provided support to many community activities.
CC&V employees aze encouraged to participate in volunteer activities in the community.
As an incentive, for every three hours volunteered, employees receive one hour of
• vacation time. Employees donated over 4,000 hours to community service in 1999.
CC&V also has supported local community events such as Donkey Derby Days
and Gold Rush Days. They have been instrumental in beautification, building
refurbishment, irrigation system installation, sodding, horseshoe pit construction, and
placement of picnic tables in Wallace Park and establishment of the hockey rink in
Brian's Pazk. CC&V has helped to establish a series of public trails and interpretive
signs explaining the history to educate visitors and residents on the important role of
mining in the District. This trail system is intended to draw tourists to the Victor area and
provide a source of additional tourist revenues for the town. CC&V also has developed
an extensive inventory of the historic artifacts in the District, which is being compiled
into a database that is intended for researchers and that will be publicly available.
Additionally, CC&V periodically provides opportunities for members of the
public to collect firewood or transplant live trees from company property scheduled for
u
to
