• the B-Groove, the A-Groove and the Perched aquifer) will be
monitored at the location of the three groups of wells. Note, a
second Perched well (IRI-5) and the A-Groove well (IRI-4) at the
maxi-pad are planned for 1991.
The rationale for selecting the various well locations is based
on NaTec's determination of ground water flow direction. This
determination is based on a compilation of potentiometric
surface measurements made at wells both on and adjacent to the
lease tracts. 4`he potentiometric surface for the upper and
lower aquifers shown in Plates 2 and 3, respectively, indicated
that ground water flow is from the southwest to the northeast.
NaTec considers t:he distance that the two groups of wells are
• from the well fifald to be appropriate, in that, wells located
nearer to the well field could potentially "miss" showing the
impacts of a particular problem area within the well field.
More distant locations are not felt to be warranted, in that a
greater distance could result in too long of a time between the
development of a problem and detection of that problem.
1.2 Well Field Monitor Wells
Figure 2 shows the proposed number of ground water monitoring
wells that will be located within the well field. It should be
noted that these wells will be developed sequentially as mining
proceeds within t}te well field. Initially four wells (NaTec-26-
• EX-2 set) were completed at the northeastern boundary of the
8
