• to ground water flow) and down-gradient from the well field to
enable a determination of the impact of mining operations on
ground water entering and leaving the lease tract (Plate 1, at
end of this document illustrates location of dedicated wells).
At the site of planned commercial scale mining operations, the
Boies bed is separated from the overlying Dissolution Surface
(lower most penetration of ground water ) by approximately 40
feet of impermeable competent roof rock. The Dissolution
Surface, which is located at an approximate depth of 1885 feet,
forms the base o:E the lower aquifer which extends upward to a
depth of approximately 1580 feet (Figure 1).
• The upper aquifer is situated above the top of the Mahogany zone
which is also the top of the Leaky-Confining layer (Figure 1).
The Leaky-Confining layer separates the upper and lower aquifers
but does allow for significant hydraulic connection between the
two aquifer systems. The potentiometric surface of the upper
aquifer is slighi:ly higher than the potentiometric surface of
the lower aquifer, allowing ground-water to move in a downward
direction from upper to lower aquifer.
Based on data from drill hole NaTec 26-EX-2, near the site of
the plant/well field operations, a Perched aquifer is located at
an approximate depth of 400-600 feet below the surface within
the Uinta Formation (Figure 1). It appears as though this
unconfined Perched aquifer is associated with a lithologic
5
