I December 23, ! 999 ~ ~ Page C-6 <br />C.3.5.2 San+ple Labels/7'ags <br />All samples collected in the field will have sample labels/tags attached to or fixed around the <br />sample containers, or be inscribed by printing using a waterproof black marking pen. The label <br />should be protected from damage. Sample identification will be placed on the containers so as not <br />to obscure any QA/QC lot numbers. Field identification will be sufficient to enable cross-reference <br />with the project logbook. All samples will be subject to the same custodial procedures and <br />documentation. To minimize sample container handling, labels/tags may be partially filled out prior <br />to sample collection. The sample label/tag will include the following information: <br />- Sample number <br />- Sampler's name <br />- Date and time of collection <br />- Analysis required <br />- Preservation <br />C.3.6 Sample Filtration <br />Samples for dissolved constituents analyses will be filtered during the field sampling event <br />by using a disposable filter apparatus and peristaltic or hand vacuum pump. (Or, a disposable inline <br />filter may be connected to a sampling tap on the pump discharge line.) <br />The following procedure should be used for filtering samples collected with the peristaltic <br />pump or hand vacuum pump: <br /> <br />1 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />- Assemble filter device according to manufacturer's instructions. <br />- Filter sample by pouring sample in the top portion of filter unit. Or, if a submersible <br />or peristaltic pump is used, samples may be collected using a disposable filter unit <br />connected to a sampling tap on the pump dischazge line. Allow a portion of the <br />filtered sample to pass before collecting to ensure sample homogeneity. Duplicate <br />samples can be collected from the same filter unit. <br />- Transfer filtered sample to appropriate preserved (HNO,) sample bottle(s). <br />- If samples contain a lot of sediment, the use of a second filter unit maybe necessary. <br />- Dispose of used filtration unit appropriately. <br />' Agapito Associates, Inc. <br />
