Ms Carla Lenkey <br />FIRST QUARTER 1998 DMR <br />April 20, 1998 <br />page 2 <br />The conditions at Outfa11004A on March 16, 1998 were that the pond was receiving inflow from <br />snowmelt due to the warming trend bringing the average 24 hour temperature into the 38 degree <br />Fahrenheit range, with a maximum temperature of 48 degrees Fahrenheit. <br />W~ ~ <br />The conditions at Outfall 007A on March 23, 1998 were that the pond was receiving inflow from <br />snowmelt due to the increasing average 24 hour temperature of 46 degrees Fahrenheit, with a <br />maximum temperature of 55 degrees Fahrenheit. <br />Documented Temperature Data <br />Enclosed with this letter is a table documenting the date, average 24 hour temperature, and amount <br />of precipitation occurring during the month of March, 1998. Two additional tables indicate the <br />daily maximum temperatures for March 16 and March 23, 1998. A temperature conversion scale <br />is included for your convience. <br />Exemption Request <br />Colowyo claims the Alternate Limitations for an Active Mining Outfall of Permit No. COG- <br />850017, page 4, Part I, B, 1, a, specific to snowmelt less than or equal to the 100 year, 24-hour <br />precipitation event (< 1.8") for Outfall 004A; and specific to Outfall 007A for snowmelt greater <br />than the 10-year, 24-hour precipitation event (> 1.8"). <br />Colowyo hopes the information provided in this letter clarifies the events occurring at Colowyo <br />during the first quarter 1998.
