n
INTRODUCTION
P
d S
urpose an
cope
The purpose of this report is to describe drainage related
- features associated with the Cooley Gravel Company Morrison
~ gravel quarry. The report also addresses other engineering
matters related to water resources. This report is supple-
mentary to the report "Potential Impacts on Environment" dated
November 1972, prepared by the Thorne Eecological Institute,
and describes the engineering facilities and features necessary
I ' to accomplish many of the recommendations contained in the
Thorne report. Detailed information on the site is in the
' Thorne report and generally will not be repeated here, except
as necessary for clarity. Supplementary reports have been
prepared annually by Thorne which describe periodic progress
' and conditions of the environmental aspects.
' In the Thorne report of 1972, a hydrology study was pre-
pared by M. W. Bittinger & Associates, a consulting engineering
firm at Fort Collins, Colorado. The Cooley Gravel Company also
commissioned the firm of W. W. Wheeler & Associates to prepare
a flood runoff study in 1971, also for the purpose of defining
the flood potential and required size of a facility to safely
pass the runoff from Strain Gulch through the operating area.
t This drainage report utilizes the basic data prepared :in these
previous studies.
' The facilities described as needed, either during or
after the mining operation, are in the nature of engineering
' recommendations and conceptual designs. Because the operation
will take place over many years and operation conditions may
' be observed which requires modification to the drainages plan,
detailed designs are not required until such time as the
implementation program for the construction of the facilities
t
' ~(~ Leonard Rice Consuit~og Water Engineers.
