RECHARGE PROTOCOL
Division of Water Resources
Division One -Greeley
1. The purpose d a'tediarge strkrclure' as referer-oed In this document is to
introduce water to the river atluvium Chat wi0 result in aoaedons to a live stream.
For the purposes of this document, a recriarge strukture does rwt include a well
that is used to artifidaly recharge a Demrer Basin bedrock aquifer. WNh that
qualfication, a recharge structure is defined as:
a. A ser5iorr d ditch, the bases from whkh can be reasonably characterized
by an average SDF value.
b. A pond or group of ponds that receive water from the same delivery
bcatron and can reasonaby be assigned a single SDF value.
2. A mitten notificatlorr for each recharge strukxura must !re provided to the water
oommissbrxjr and division engineer. The Division of Water Resources will
not acknowledge any recharge aetlvily conducted either prior to our
knowledge of its existence or whkh cannot be corroborated with data by
the water commiaslonar. The ratification moat include:
a, the sedlon, township and range d the strucure (STR).
b. the distances of the strucxure from the sedlon lines.
c. if the diversion point for the recharge structure is not located in the vidnity
d the recharge site, oleo also provide the STR and distances from
section 11nes d the metered diversion point.
d. for ditch structures, identity the location d the diversion structure. !f the
ditch is divided into more Urarr one rek~arge reach, explain trove the
volume diverted will be allocated to the various sedlons.
e. the maximum water surtaoe area of the structure.
3. Upon receiving written ratificatiork, the Division of Water Resources will assign
the stnrdure a WDID number. The WDf4 number is the identiflcatfon number
that will txe used for the adminbtration of the structure and must be included In all
correspondence and accounting reports. (any structure specHically ldemleed
by 8TR and distances from section Imes in a Wafer Court application Tor
water rlghta or plan for augmerrtatlon will be considered to have met the
written notfftcatlon requirements. Fa structures that were conceptualy
Included In a decreed plan for augmentation but wero not physically
constructed at the time M the decree, a wrflten notlfleation oT the Intent to
co,ratn,ct the struderre must be provided.)
4. Any stn.icture that intercepts groundwater must be permitted as a well and
included in a plan for augmentation or substitute water supply Plan approved by
the State Engineer. The Division d Water Resources strongly reowmrends
avotdtng recharge sWdures that Intercept groundwater, in order tp simplify fire
accounting process.
Recharge Protocol, Revs ~anuarv 28. 2005
