A small portion of this diversion ditch is no longer needed, as the Ammonium Nitrate
and Explosives Storage Area ("Explosives Storage Area") access road intercepts runoff upgradient of the diversion ditch.
7Jte section of diversion ditch that is not necessary anymore captures only the small area between the road accessing the
Explosives Storage Area, and the diversion ditch itself.'Ihis general area is also permitted under Amendment 7 for the
installation of a haul road to Lower Squaw Gulch Overburden Stockpile Area as shown on Amendment 7 Drawing DI,
Project Areas.
As we discussed in the field, CC&V plans to extend the soil liner fiB stockpile to the west in order to provide sufficient
stockpile area for the material necessary for construction of the Phase 11 and III extensions to the Valley I-each Facility.
'Ihe stockpile area will use the area formerly occupied by this small section of diversion ditch.
When this section of diversion ditch is removed, runoff upgradient of the access road to the Explosives Storage Area will
be routed via the road to a sediment control structure, and then into the diversion ditch downgradient of the soil liner fill
processing area. 7Jte area below the access road to the Explosives Storage Area, where the obsolete diversion ditch is
located, is shown on the enclosed map and is identified on the map legend as "Soil Liner Fill Stockpile Area".
Please call should you have any questions or wish to discuss this matter further.
Sincerely,
1 ~~-~~~~
Phil Bames
Chief Environmental Coordinator
Enclosure
xc: Scott Lewis, Manager Envtronmental Affairs
