COAL COMPANY
Mr. Jim Herron
Colorado Mined Land Re<
1313 Sherman Street
423 Centennial Building
Denver, Colorado 80203
RECEIVED
MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
Calo. Dept o(Natural Resources
The report includes tables indicating the inflows, discharges and consumption r
water in the mine. Maps are also included which show the location of inflows in
relationship to the mine workings and to Rapid and Cottonwood Creeks. The to
and maps contain confidential information which Powderhorn Coal Company requ
Soard to keep confidential.

1
t
water inflows in the Roadside Mine. The
ground water from an interface between
flows into the mine. The second source of

ground water is liberation of isolated zones of water in the coal seam at the active
working faces in the south half of the mine. Inflows from the sections appear as wet
(weeping) coal ribs and faces. The quantities of inflows cannot be measured at the
working faces because of the weeping effect. However, as mining progresses up
dip, more area is exposed and measureable quantities accumulate well back of the
active working sections. Where mining progresses through the isolated water bear-
ing zones, areas of wetted ribs can be observed rising from the floor to the roof
of the active working section.
There are two major sources of ground
first occurs at the North Decline where
alluvial gravels and bedrock seeps and
Wherever water is encountered in the mine workings, it is collected into sumps.
The sump water is recycled and pumped to active mine sections, the preparation
plant and/or pumped to permitted discharge points. Quantities listed on the Cround
Water Inflows -Locations table were measured using the Formula Q = A x V in ditches
excavated by Powderhorn Coal Company to effectively control the water. No point
sources of ground water have been observed in the mine.
r POWDERHORN COAL COMPANY • P.O. BOX 1430 • Palisade, Colorado 81526 • (303) 464-7951
