L
reportable antount of petroleum products were spilled or released into any waterway during
1995.
in 1995, WFC backfilled, graded, and topsoiled 40.6 acres of disturbed land. The majority
of this was completed in the fall and all of it will be seeded in the spring of 1996. This
reclamation work will greatly reduce the runoff of sediment from dismrbed land to our
sediment ponds. Ponds 002-006 were surveyed for adequate sediment and water storage
capacity for [he 25yr - 24hr event. They demonstrated sufficient capacity. Ponds 001 and
007 are pending annual survey and subsequent recertification till they thaw and we are able
to survey to the total depth of the pond. This should be completed by March of 1996.
Wire changes made to your SWMP? Yes
At the New Horizon II area, Pond 007 road is being reclaimed. The road is being
removed, the subsoil ripped, contoured into existing reclamation, covered with the
appropriate topsoil and seeded. The North and South Ditches are being redesigned into
one "big" ditch on the south side of the reclamation that is engineered for all SWMP
criteria. As of 1/23/96, approximately 1500' of road has been reclaimed.
B. A SLJMMARY OF EACH COMPREHENSIVE STORMWATER FACILITY
BVSPECTION MADE....
New Horizon Mine is small enough in land area t}tat all active areas in the pern~it
boundary are inspected for SWMP compliance daily, Monday -Friday. This includes
ditches, culverts, sediment ponds, diversion ditches, petroleum storage facilities, and etc.
Non-active areas, such as established reclaimed arias awaiting reclatation bond release,
are inspected weekly, with detailed inspections monthly. Any deficiencies noted during
any of the inspections werz corrected promptly.
In the New Horizon I area, some minor improvements were made in August 1995.
Ditches were improved from the end of a straw bale sediment fence to Pond 002 and 003.
Also, Pond 003 was re-excavated to design specifications. Roads were maintained with
water bars and proper ditches to aid in high runoff situations.
