The erosion to the outslope of the embanlonent and the spillway, and <br />placement of the discharge monitoring flume remains to be completed. <br />Excess Sooil-Fills <br />Positive drainage has been established on all terrace ditches on each of the three spoil fills. Points where <br />water had breached and flowed onto the ou[slopes of the terzaces have been repaired. The down-drains on <br />fills 7 and 9 have been reshaped to their pre-storm condition. Additional rip-rap will be needed to complete <br />the work. On fill 8, the down drains have been reshaped to original design and rip-rap is now being placed. <br />Addition rip-rap will be needed. <br />Other Control Facilities <br />As mentioned earlier, all culverts aze cleaz and functional <br />Perimeter~litches-have-been repaired~and-are-functional: This-includes the north ditcfi Between ponds 9 <br />and 8, the northwest ditch above pond 5, and the ditches between ponds 6 and 7 and ponds 7 and 9A. Any <br />outslope erosion where these ditches were breached remains to be backfllled. The contour ditches on the <br />central slopes (N2, S2, S3, E2 and E3 on the soil distribution map) have been worked on. The breach on <br />the north east corner has been repaired. The west ditch has not been worked on. Road ditches have been <br />worked on only where their blockage prevents flow to the appropriate culverts resulting in increased surface <br />erosion. <br />Work Schedule <br />1. Reshaping of the west down drain of fill 8 will be completed this week or early next week. <br />2. Repairs to Pond 9 aze expected to be completed early next week (September 13-17). This will <br />include re-installation of the monitoring flume. <br />3. Flumes at the other ponds wil] be checked and leveled as needed (September 13-17). <br />Following completion of these items the excavator will be relocated to the New Elk Mine for two-three <br />weeks to work on the RDA, pond 8 and load the bed coal retrieved from the north coal stockpile area. <br />During this time, Lorencito Coal Company will be securing the use of an articulated haul truck. This truck <br />will be used to transport the bed coal for on-site disposal; then all equipment will be relocated back to the <br />Lorencito Mine. Then: <br />1. Additional rip-rap will be hauled to and placed in the fill down-drains as needed. <br />2. Ditches will be graded to design specifications and outslope erosion repaired. <br />3. Roads will be graded. - <br />4. Erosion on the Pond 5 west outslope will be repaired. <br />5. Areas disturbed by this remedial work will be seeded and mulched. <br />This work is expected to be completed bymid-November.
