Natural Soda, Inc. <br />Groundwater <br />February 2001 <br />Surface and Groundwater Monitoring Report <br />Natural Soda, Inc., commenced sampling activities to establish water quality information for its <br />experimental pilot plant nahcolite project pursuant to the approved surface and groundwater <br />monitoring plan dated November 23, 1999. This activity included drilling and completion of six <br />groundwater monitoring wells between January 18, 1999 and January 31, 2000. One well, <br />MWD-1, is located in the pillar among the production wells on Pad 1. MWD-1 monitors the <br />interval just above the Dissolution Surface. Pad 2 is immediately downgradient of the <br />production wells. Wells drilled and completed on Pad 2 are identified as follows: MWU-2 in the <br />Uinta Formation; MWA-2 at the A-Groove; MWB-2 at the B-Groove; and MWD-2 just above <br />the Dissolution Surface. Baseline water data are collected from monitoring wells MWU-2, <br />MWA-2, and MWB-2 and MWD-2 located on Pad 2 and MWD-1 located on Pad 1. Alluvial <br />groundwater is sampled in wells AM-1 and AM-2 located in the Yellow Creek drainage. Water <br />monitoring locations aze presented in Figure 1. <br />MWA-2 and AM-2 were purged by air-lifting significant quantities of groundwater out of the <br />wellbore using compressed air and''/z-inch-diameter PVC piping, and'/s-inch diameter stainless- <br />steel tubing, respectively. AM-2 was sampled using compressed air. MWA-2 was sampled using <br />the nitrogen purge lift system. MWU-2 and MWB-2 were both purged and sampled using the <br />nitrogen lift system. Monoflex stainless steel samplers were installed near the bottom of the <br />borehole in MWD-1 and MWD-2 to sample these wells by the micropurge system. Since <br />September 2000, a nitrogen micropurge system has been used for MWD-1 and MWD-2. Field <br />pazameters tested at the time of sample recovery include the following: depth to water level, <br />temperature, conductivity, pH, and total dissolved solids. The date and time of the sampling <br />were noted, along with field site conditions and any other unique features of the sampling events. <br />Daub & Associates, Inc., an independent third-party contractor, conducted the sampling <br />activities for Natural Soda, Inc. February field measurements for these groundwater monitoring <br />wells aze presented in Table 1. The analytical laboratory results are presented in Tables 2 through <br />6. The complete analytical laboratory data reports, which include the Long List constituents for <br />each well as specified in the approved surface and groundwater monitoring plan dated November <br />23, 1999, aze presented in Appendix A. <br />Surface Water <br />Streams <br />Three surface-water stream locations were sampled by Daub & Associates, Inc., to establish <br />water quality information -two upgradient and one downgradient of the project site. The <br />upgradient stream locations include the Coaal Gulch drainage neaz the inactive U.S. Geological <br />Survey (USGS) monitoring station number 09306244 and the Stake Springs Draw drainage <br />above the confluence with Yellow Creek near the inactive USGS monitoring station number <br />09306230. The Corral Gulch location is identified as SW-1; the Stake Springs location is <br />identified as SW-2 (see Figure 1). <br />Daub & Associates, Inc. <br />
