l~ I
Dfmitaiog Well ImteBatim - Dome PILL
1.0 INTRODUCTION
Western Technologies Inc., (WT) was retained by Southwestern Portland Cement Company to
install ground water monitoring wells at Dowe Flats. The purpose of the wells is to provide
baseline groundwater quality data Cor a Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board permit
application. On Monday, June 4, and Tuesday, June 5, 1990, four monitoring wells were
installed. Empire Laboratories, Inc., provided drilling and well installation services. Split spoon
soil samples were collected at 5 feet depth intervals for field screening and geologic
characterization. A monitoring well location map is provided in Plate 1. Appendix A contains
the geologic logs oC boreholes, and Appendix B contains the well completion diagrams. The
following sections of this report detail:
• Monitoring Well Locations
• Drilling Activities
• Monitoring Well Completion
2.0 MONITORING WELL LOCATIONS
• The locations of the four monitoring wells are presented in Plate 1. All wells are completed in
the shallow alluvial aquifer. DFMW-1 is upgradient of the mining operation and DFMW-2, 3 and
4 are downgradient. Ground water contamination from the Syntex chemical landfill is
upgradient of DFMW-l, therefore this well will provide baseline data on the effects, if any, of
potential Syntex contamination.
Monitoring well DFMW-1 is located in an ephemeral stream channel near the northern boundary
of the property and south of the St. Vrain Water Supply Canal. Monitoring well DFMW-2 is
located near the southwest corner oC the site, between Highway 66 and the Palmerton Ditch.
Monitoring well DFMW-3 is located near the southeast corner of the Garner Dairy, north of the
Rough and Ready Ditch. Monitoring well DFMW-4 is located near the southeast corner oC the
site, along the south bank oC the Palmerton Ditch, south of the Hall Farm.
Project N~ber.
