Peabody
Twentymile Coal Company
29515 Routt County Road #27
Oak Creek, CO 80467
October 5, 2006
Mr. Byron Walker
Environmental Protection Specialist
Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
(303)866-4941
RECEIVED
OCT 19 2006
D Muunn9 a~`rl3'"anon
`~ Safefy
RE: 3rd Quarter 2006 Pond Inspection Reports -Permit No. C-82-056
Dear Mr. Walker:
Attached for your review are the Pond Inspection Reports for the second quarter of
2006. The inspections were conducted on September 28, 2006. Note that Ponds C, D,
E, F, and G, were not flowing during the inspection. Ponds B, 62 (Fish Creek Tipple)
and the four waste water treatment ponds were flowing during the inspections. All
discharge ponds were functional. Standard vegetation clearance, dredging, and minor
maintenance aze planned for some sites during the summer of 2007 (see comments on
individual site reports).
Pond E was not flowing at the time of this inspection, however as you are awaze, Pond
E was filled with coal fines when a pipeline coming from the coal wash plant ruptured.
The break was discovered on September 11th. Water from Pond E flowed into Foidel
Creek sometime following the pipeline break through September 2151. Cleanup and
removal of coal fines deposited along the Pond E weir channel, and Foidel Creek aze
on going, through the use of high pressure water spray and vacuum truck use in
combination with the damming of strategic catch basins.
This information is submitted in compliance with Twentymile Coal Company Permit
C-82-056 and Rule 4.05.6(13). The inspections were conducted by a qualified
individual under the direction of Michael Ludlow, a registered Professional Engineer
in the state of Colorado (see next page).
•
