Box 980
Carbondale, Colorado 81623
1303) 963-3a4D
Denver Ollice:
April 12, 1983
Suite 231]0
X10 Seventeenth Street
Denver, Colorado 80202
(303) 825~t966
' Mr. Jim Goodyear
0323 Elk Rnage Drive
Carbondale, CO 81623
Dear Mr. Goodyear:
' Enclosed you will find a map made from the U.S.G.S. Stony Ridge 71 min. Quad
map. This map shows the location of the 4 proposed weirs that Snowmass Coal
Company wishes to install. The purpose of these weirs is to accurately mea-
sure the quantity of water passing over our mine site.
' • Snowmass Coal Company proposes to install rectangular weirs with end contrac-
tions. The rectangular notch will be 7 feet wide and 2 feet deep. The bot-
' tom of the notch will be 4.3 feet above the bottom of the creek beds. The
length of the weir will depend on the actual width of the creeks. Measure-
ments have shown that these weirs will range from 28 feet to 35 feet in length
' depending on the location. The weirs will be formed out of concrete and
measure one-half foot thick.
In discussing this proposal with the Army Corps of Engineers, it was determined
that a 404 permit was needed to construct the weirs. The Corps requested that
we contact the Division of Wildlife and see if some sort of fish ladder will
be required for these weirs.
' In talking with you, and Mr. Sidel, it is apparent that some sort of device
will be required. I would appreciate it if you could send any information
' regarding the design of fish ladders so that I may incorporate them into the
weir design. Once the weir design has been finalized, I will send a copy of
the final drawings to you for your inspection before the 404 application is
sent to the Army Corps of Engineers.
1
1
1 •
1
