Page 2
To construct the weir, one-half of the creek will be diverted to the
' other half by pushing up a dike from the existing stream channel. One-
half of the weir will be constructed; then the water will be diverted to the
• finished weir. An 18 inch diam~er piece of culvert with a sliding gate will
' be built into the weir and opened to allow the water to pass through the com-
pleted section of the weir while the other half of the weir is being construct-
ed. This approach will be feasible because the flow in the creek is less than
2 cfs at the present time.
' When the weir is completed, the stream channel will be regraded to its
present configuration, and the water will overflow the tap of the weir.
' As a requirement for our permit to mine coal, Snowmass Coal Company has
investigated the mine site and has determined that there are no threatened or
endangered species present. Also, it has been determined that there is no
critical wildlife habitat anywhere near the mine site.
If this program is not covered under the nation wide permit system, please
' send the necessary application forms fora general permit.
If you have any questions or comments, please call me at the mine office.
t Sincerely,
~~~ ~~~
Scott Jones
Environmental Coordinator
' • SJ:mgc
' Enclosures
~~
1
1
•
