7
• The second local domestic well is located downstream from the Yankee Gulch
site on private property owned by the Burke family. This well was also not
sampled during the current reporting period because the owners were awaiting
the installation of a pump in the well.
Both of these local domestic wells will be sampled in the future once the
equipment is installed or becomes operational.
Alluvial Wells
Three new alluvial monitoring wells were drilled in July 1999, bringing the total to
four wells (19-3, 21-2, 21-5, and 28-1). Three of the four existing alluvial
monitoring well (21-2, 21-5, and 28-1) are used to monitor the water level and
water quality of the Alluvial Aquifer adjacent to Piceance Creek. The fourth
• alluvial monitoring well is located downstream of the proposed location of the
upper plant evaporation pond. It will be used to monitor for potential leakage
from the pond once the pond is installed. No data was collected for this well
during the current monitoring period as the well had insufficient water for sample
collection or level monitoring.
Single Completion Wells
There are a number of single completion wells at the Piceance Site. The
majority of these wells were constructed to monitor the test mine phase and are
now incorporated into the 0-5 year commercial monitoring plan. Changes made
to the network of single-completion wells during the current monitoring period
include re-completion of well 20-4 (formerly a B Groove monitoring well) as an A
Groove well (now called 20-4A} and installation of a new B Groove well (20-46)
adjacent to well 20-4A. Well 29-2, which was a Dissolution Surface monitoring
well, was also re-completed to become a B Groove well (29-2B).
