Dept. of Natural Resources
Dear Susan:
Enclosed is the Professional Engineer's Certification Report
on the construction of sediment Pond "K" for the Pryor Mine.
Although I was not present for any part of the construction,
the following items were verified by an on site visit:
(1) The road embankment is well constructed with adequate
slopes and compaction. There was no evidence of cur-
rent or past seepage at any point along the embank-
ment. This was verified by the operator.
(2) The Weir Box at the 36 inch C.M.P. principal spillway
is constructed to the approved specifications except
that the 9 inch circular opening in the orifice plate
was changed to an 8 inch square opening. This config-
uration has the same cross sectional area and will not
effect any design calculations.
(3) At least one foot of cover is present over the 16 gauge
C.M.P. which is adequate to prevent damage.
(!~ ' There was no evidence of seepage on the outer edges of
the 36 inch C.M.P. The operator verified. that care was
taken in compacting around the culvert and that.he has
never detected any seepage.
The emergency spillway which is designed as a mild-sloped low
spot on the road embankment, has not yet been installed due to dif-
ficult weather conditions, however the operator said he hopes to
complete the spillway within two weeks. I will send a follow-up
certification of the emergency spillway once it is constructed.
Sincerely,
PANORAMA RESOURCE SERVICES, INC.
Greg Zewic~.
