C. 20250 Dear Mr. Askeglund: = have had my staff review the Yampa Project Draft Environ- mental Statement. They have been in close contact with the agencies involved in the various aspects of the project throughout the preliminary studies. It is our feeling that adequate attention and respect has been accorded historical and archaeological resources throughout the project area. This is documented by the project statement's remarks of pages 90, 100, 202, 2-~U,to 2-54, 2-63, 3-54, 3-161, 4-5. As stated in the report, archaeological surveys conducted by Dr. D. A. Breternitz have not uncovered any significant resources of this type. It is understandable that corridor surveys 'cannot be made at this time, and Z rely on your statements given in the above cited pages that these will be conducted prior to project construction. The Office of the State Archaeologist, directed by Dr. James Hester, with whom contact has been made in the past, will have the final judg- ment as to the adequacy with which this report and future actions deal with archaeological resources. Since our last correspondence in identifying historic sites to project researchers, no further sites have been identified by the on-going inventory. We appreciate assurances that should any sites be discovered during the project, immediate notification will be given to my office.
