drainage, topography, tone and color, and almost always have a
structural connotation. Alignments usually relate to faults •
although they also may be the result of jointing. A group of three
subparallel alignments trending about N25-40W are mapped in cie NE
cor. sec. 18. A fourth alignment is roughly normal to this _rend
and essentially terminates the other three other alignments. The
group of three alignments is interpreted to represent tensional
fractures associated with the west flank of the Fish Creek
anticline. The fourth alignment may represent a stress-relief
fracture essentially normal to the axis of the anticline.
3.4 Hydroloav
An extensive commentary on hydrology is not within the scope
of this investigation; however, certain comments are appropriate as •
they relate to the haul-road alignment.
The field work for this investigation was in September, during
the hydrologic low stage. At that time, the only stream flowing in
the southern part of the area was the unnamed drainage that flows
essentially northward from the center of the proposed mining
operation. Several springs and seeps were seen along this stream
and probably were due to a relatively shallow, or perched water
table.
Twenty-five test holes were drilled for soil and rock samples.
The holes that encountered water were all drilled in alluvial
deposits. The distribution of holes in which water levels were
measured is such that a definitive concept cannot be formed of the
water table in the main drainage that passes through the proposed •
16
