At the meeting of all the parties involved in this project
on N,:arch 19, 1993, it was agreed that the area being mined would be
fenced and there would be no cattle grazing. This was necessary to
provide protection to the new cottonwood seedlings. This fencing
has not been completed to my knowledge.
2. The cottonwood seedlings are starting to grow on the
disturbed areas where the mining appears to be completed but the
area. has not been shaped to final grade. These young cottonwoods
will be destroyed when the final grading is done. Could the
operator complete the final grading as quickly as possible so the
cottonwoods can naturally start the revegetation process and never
be disturbed?
3. The Fish and Wildlife Service states in their July 19,
1993 letter that many of the cottonwoods at Transect 2 have died or
are in very poor health. If I remember correctly, the mining
permit stated that if the cottonwoods started to die, there would
be changes in the mining operations. If this is true, what changes
are planned?
Let us know if we can be of any assistance on these concerns.
219 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203 Telephone (303) 866-3351
