• SCOPE
This report presents the results of our Geotechnical Investigation for the
revised Refuse Disposal Area (RDA) planned for the Foidel Creek Mine in Routt
County, Colorado. The purpose of this investigation was to evaluate the
geotechnical conditions related to the revised coal waste pile and provide design and
construction recommendations as required by the State of Colorado, Division of
Minerals and Geology regulations (Reference 17). Our analysis and design of the
RDA included consideration of geotechnical aspects related to stability, drainage and
construction. Analysis of the potential acid or toxic properties of the waste rock
was not wRhin the scope of this investigation.
CTL./Thompson, Inc. previously completed a Geotechnical and Hydrologic
. Investigation (Reference 1) for a larger coal waste refuse disposal area which
included the revised disposal area. This investigation was based to considerable
degree on the information obtained from the previous investigation.
This report includes descriptions of site topography, soil, bedrock and
groundwater conditions, results of stabilty analyses, and recommendations for the
coal waste disposal area configuration, internal drainage, and construction and
inspection procedures.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The general location of the revised Refuse Disposal Area is shown on Fig. 1.
The RDA is located south of the Foidel Creek drainage and will have a sidehill
configuration on the west side of a shallow valley. A topographic plan of the
• proposed RDA is shown on Fig. 2, and typical details on Figs. 3, 4 and 5.
