2.0 Stream Gaueine S ti n
WRN through a cooperative agreement with the USGS, provides funding for the
operation of four stream gauging stations. One station is up stream and one
down stream of the W]tN operation on Piceance and Yellow creeks, for a total
of four stations. Figure 19 illustrates location of the stations. USGS personnel
collect continuous streamflow and field measurements. Water quality analysis
for major components is conducted on a quarterly and semi-annual basis, see
Table 2.
2.1 Description of Surface Stream Gaugine Stations
The gauging stations b;ive an extensive, long-term data base. Natural or
artificial control devices are utilized to obtain water level readings, with a
continuous level recording unit. USGS personnel calibrate each station at a
frequency of once per month except during high flow conditions when
calibration is twice per month. Data is reported annually, with 12 month delay.
2.2 Monitoring Parameters. Methodology and Frequency
Collection of data is continuous for stream flow, and water samples are collected
on a quarterly basis for field measurements and major ions and semi-annually
for nutrients, see Table 2. Field measurements are made immediately upon
z~
