• Color photographs of several of the sample points were taken and are being maintained
in the permanent data file with the original field data sheets.
For field identification of the jurisdictional wetland areas, colored survey flags were
placed along the edges of the jurisdictional wetland areas.
RESULTS
Three distinct areas were identified as jurisdictional wetlands within the study area.
The first area was a segment of the unnamed drainage through the center of the study
area. This jurisdictional wetland comprises 5500 square feet or 0.125 acres in area. A
second jurisdictional wetland area was the irrigation ditch and immediate area along the
north edge of the study area. The last jurisdictional wetland identified was the spring
and immediately adjacent azea on the north face of the terrace slope. As irrigation
ditch and the terrace spring will be avoided by the planned project, they were not
sampled or mapped for size. Spring Creek did not qualify as a jurisdictional wetland
within the study area. Figure 1 illustrates the jurisdictional wetland boundaries and the
sample point locations. Appendix 1 contains the approved Army Corps of Engineers
field data sheets for wetland delineations.
SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS
Jurisdictional wetlands were identified within the study area at the Carol Ann Pit site in
Eagle County. Colorado on September 9, 1996. The area within the study area, which
could be potentially disturbed by the project, and which met the 1987 USACE Wetland
Delineation Manual criteria for jurisdictional wetlands was identified, sampled, and
flagged. This area was a drainage swale traversing the center of the study area. This
area is a low topographic area which receives surface runoff from adjacent undeveloped
and developed sources and three ground water springs along it's course. This area
drains into an irrigation ditch below the upper terrace at the north boundary of the
study area. The irrigation ditch flows east and downgradient to a marshy area within
an agricultural field adjacent to the Eagle River.
u
-4-
