depleting the artificial flow into Rapid Creek. The inevitable impact on the water <br />right holders will be the decrease of available water for irrigation. The water <br />users of record on Rapid Creek and listed in Table 7-5. <br />A water containment structure in the NW1/4 of Section 2, T11S, R98W has <br />previously been identified as a spring. The Benitendi spring is actually on <br />record as an alluvial well. The information on file with the Colorado State Water <br />Resource Division is set forth in Figure 7-1. <br />There is also one shallow alluvial well next to the river near Cameo Power Plant <br />owned by Public Service Company of Colorado. This well is approximately 42 <br />feet deep, with a permitted production rate of 60 gpm. Water is pumped from <br />the Colorado River alluvium, and use of this well is limited to periods when <br />water is not available on the Government Highline Canal. This well is outside <br />the permit boundary and the adjacent area, and it will not be affected by <br />• mining. A description of the well is presented in Figure 7-2. <br />The quantity, peak stages, discharges, and seasonal variations of flow in the <br />Colorado River have been recorded by the U.S. Geological Survey at gauging <br />station number 955 located seven miles north of the permit area. (See Exhibit <br />7). This station has been monitored since 1934. The drainage area at the <br />station is approximately 8,050 square miles. <br />Seasonal distribution of discharge and flow duration are represented in Figure <br />7-3. Discharge rates, maximum, minimum, and average flows for water year <br />1978 and for the life of the station are shown in Table 7-7. The Colorado River <br />has an average annual flow of 3,801 cubic feet per second over a 45-year <br />period. The maximum daily discharge occurred in 1935 and was 36,000 cubic <br />feet per second. The minimum daily discharge occurred in 1939 and was 700 <br />cubic feet per second.
