Max Witkind, study of the blueprint plans
showing the proposed new portal location for Colorado Westmoreland's Orchard
Valley Mine and a review of the debriefing letter submitted to us by Steve
Baker about the test excavation conducted at Site SDT271, we have concluded
that the proposed work will not impact. these two sites. Therefore, from an
archeologlst's standpoint, we feel that follow through of a Section 106 pro-
cess with the Colorado State Historic Preservation Officer is not necessary
and recommend that you proceed with the proposed work.
Please direct any written responses or questions to M.
