5.0 SURFACE-WATER QUALITY
Samples were collected from active sites S1, 001, 002, 005, 006, 008, 010, 011,
013, 015 and 017 during 1997. Analytical results for these surface water samples are
presented in Table C-1 (page C-35). The more frequently measured parameters are
presented with the first series of values with the less frequent measured parameters three
separate groups at the end of Table C-1. NPDES sites 003, 009, 012, 014, 016 and 019
had no discharges during 1997. Therefore, no data are presented.
5.1 TSS
Figures C-7, C-9, C-11, C-13, C-15, C-17 and C-19 present plots of total

suspended solids (TSS) versus time for the sites 001, 002, 005, 006, 011, 013, 015, 017,
are located in the same area. The 1997 TSS values are similar to those previously
S1, 008 and 010, respectively. Some sites were grouped together on the same plot if they
observed from sites NPDES 001 and NPDES 002. Figure C-11 shows that no 1997 TSS
values were measured for sites 005 and 006 because flow at these sites was from seeps
except for a very few discharge flows. Figures C-13 and C-15 show one large TSS value
for sites 011 and 017 in 1997, respectively. Plots of flow versus TSS for the same sites are
presented in Figures C-8, C-10, C-12, C-14, C-16, C-18 and C-20. As expected, a general
increase in TSS for an increase in flow is seen in these plots for 1997 data as well as the
historical data from these sites.
One TSS value was measured for site S1 (Flume Gulch), one for NPDES 015,

two for 017, two for 008 and three for 010 in 1997. These TSS values are found in Table
C-1.
5-1
