The st.rett ificatian of the embankment soils and t.ha undar•- <br />15•irlg rlativr soils is evidenced by minor changes if: the soil <br />tw~turr-, variations in soil density and soli moisture r•unLenl.. <br />The sail encountered in the embankment. <br />area was classified as a silty, sand}• clay (CL) under t.ite Unified <br />Classification System. The standard penetration t.~•sl.s r:rngE'll <br />from 12 blows per foot to in excess of 50 blows per foot.. Perle- <br />trat.ion testy of this magnitude of range indicate thr soils ar~• <br />yuit,e variable in nensity and consistenc}•.
