Gunnison tlo. 1 t~iine. <br />The proposed tit. Gun..^•i son Go. 1 i'ine uculd be locatetl apprcxi•^.:ately 1 <br />• mile east of Somerset, Colorado, in Gunniscn County. This near mires <br />would produce 2.4 million tons of coal per year for 27 years to supply <br />unspecified utili±ies. The operation ~rould utilize continuous r•~ining <br />equipment to develop lone;;all panels {see glossary) and then c;.ir.e the <br />panels on retreat using long~.+all methods. Approxi:aately 10u acres could <br />be disturbed from mining and surface facilities by 1990. At full <br />production the mine could employ 565 persons.. <br />Grand Mesa Coal Company <br />Recently Grand i4esa Coal Co^pany purchased the mine property of <br />• Belden Enterprises. BeTd~n eras prcducing less than 1,000 tcns nor year <br />from the Fred Canyon tio. 1 Mine on a 60-acre tract of criva±e land <br />located in Celta County ncrthvest cf Cedaredce, Colorado. Pefore the <br />property Bras sold, a mining and reclar.~ation plan for the proposed <br />Coalby-Red Carycn Mine eras submitted to the USGS. The plar, ;;as r.ot <br />approved before the property r;as sold and Grand t;esa has not announced <br />its plans for the property. The producticn and employ-ent frcm the <br />proposed Coalby-P,ed Canyon ~rere used in tables 1-1 to 1-3. <br />• Texas-Gulf <br />Recently Texas-Gulf purchased the Tomahawk tfiine of Quinn <br />Development. The Tomahawk Strip trine was opened in 1970 in Delta County <br />northwest of Cedared;e, Colorado. Quinn controlled 420 acres of private <br />.• coal i^ the area. The Temaha~ir, t•line produced 35,331 tens cf coal in <br />• 1978. At full producticn 250,000 tons per year vrould be prcduced. Mire <br />life is estimated to ~ 12 years. Coal is trucked fror,~ tt:e mire site ie <br />rail loadout facilities in [~lta, Colorado. The coal is used to supply <br />• various utilities and the local domestic market. At full production, <br />eighteen people would be employed by the operation. <br />Coors Beer Company <br />Coors Beer bought the King dine property at Botifie, Colorado in <br />1974. Ttie property consists of 2,0?G acres of private teal reserves. <br />Coors has plans to produce from 300,000 to 500,000 tons of coal annually <br />from the King 1.1ine. Construction of surface facilities is scheduled to <br />begin in •1980. Coal vrould be shipped by unit train frcm tiro mire to the <br />Coors Brer~ery in Golden, Colorado.
