•
•
submit for review and approval a mining permit application in eec:pliance
with 3U(CFR): 710.11 or 741.11. That plan would be revie,.ed ar,d
approved by OS.~ in consultation with USGS, BLt1, and the state of
Colorado.
WSC anticipates increasing their production from the present level
of 350,000 tons annually to 000,000 ton; in 19S0 and 1,000,000 tons in
1985. WSC feels these goals can be r:et by production frer;~ their
existing leases, and the projected production is indeper.cent of
obtaining this short-term lease tract. l•1SC has subc, itted a brief
sur~r~ary of production plans in the evert that they do not obtain the
reserves on the short-term lease tract. The Plzns appear to be
feasible. Therefore, although the Stages of Ir,;ple~entaticr, discussion
belo~r indicates that production fre:n the mining oeeratien .+iil increase
.over the next 4- to 5-year period, none of the increased production or
employment is attributable to the proposed action. The prcposeo action
is strictly to offer for lease 300 acres cf federal coal reserves to
prevent those reserves from becoming an isolated unmineable tract.
Stages of Ir,~,olementation
Mining on the tract would becin irr:ediately after a mining per,nit
for the tract ryas zppreved. rpprroximatety 000,OCv^ tons ~,rculd be
produced at the Hawk's best East Mine in 193D and 1,000,C00 tons in
1935. Enpioyrent ~;ould increase from i45 in 1930 to 240 in 1°85.
h1i ne Layout
The proposed mine lay cut as submitted by IJSC is shc.:n in figcre
1-S. The underground mininy operation at the ra~,vk's tdest East ,~;ine is
currently developine r;rains along the eastern boundary of existing
federal coal lease D-042921. Qy late spring or early su;cr,er that
development work will be largely concluded. Should the t;SC mining
permit be approved, the first raise entry (see Glossary) ti+ould be
extended to the sou*_hern boundary of this tract and zn intai:e airvray
(discussed belor.) would be established at its southernr!ost extent.
Follor+ing the co~~plation cf the airr;ay two of the existine east mains
would be extended fo;n the eastern boundary of lease D-O;Z921 to the
eastern boundary of the tract. t2oo:ns or extraction panels weuid be
developed north of the east ~~,ains. To protect the main entries 3CG-foot
barrier pillars would be left bet~+een the panels and mains.
'••
