Mining Schedule
Mining is currently projected to occur at the rate of approximately .5 tons/yeaz. Based on
an estimated reserve of 1.5 million tons, mining will be completed in approximately three
years from the start of operations. Mining is currently projected to commence in the winter
of 2005.
The following is the approximate acreage and time for mining each phase:
Acres per Phase Time for Mining (years)
Phase I 14 1
Phase II
30
Total 44 3
The following equipment and facilities will be utilized in this operation:
Conveyors (2250 ft) Dozer (1) Back Hoe (1)
Graders (1) Loaders (2) Scrapers (2)
Stacking Conveyors Portable'foilet (1)
In order to gain an understanding of the extent of the mining operation, it is helpful to
know the acres disturbed by different aspects of the mine. The point in time where the
mining disturbance could be at its maximum, during the end of Phase II, has been selected
to illustrate the various acres of disturbance:
A. Stripped overburden and topsoil in anticipation of mining 15 acres
B. Active mining area 15 acres
C. Topsoil stockpiles ]acre
D. Roads 1 acre
E. Backfilled with stockpile 7 acres
F. Seeded 6 acres
G. Reseeded for 20% non-germination 1 acres
Maximum Total Disturbance: 46 acres
Surface Water Management
All mine areas will drain internally. Uncontrolled releases of surface water and sediment
from mining aeeas will not occur. Stormwater collected in the open pit will be managed in
accordance with Colorado/NPDES discharge permit requirements. Sediment generated
from localized stormwater runoff and surface drainage will be detained in the ponds
already existing at the previously permitted Cottonwood Pit.
Existing water rights at the existing Cottonwood site will be used for dust control
operations along the roads and stockpiles at Duckworth. It is estimated that 2500 gallons a
week will be required to limit dust emissions. The water will be supplied using a 2500-
gallon water truck.
Duckx•orth Pit
DMG l12 Permi[
