State DrinF:ing Water Standards & Analytical Techniqu~ <br />Rule 605b. <br />help://w~ li braries.wayne.edWelaw/water/sdwa/sdwrvle6. hlml <br />(1) The techniques utilized in the collection and analysis of samples to meet the monitoring requirements <br />for regulated VOCs and unregulated contaminants prescribed by Part 7 of these Rules or to determine <br />compliance with the provisions of this Part shall be conducted using the following EPA methods or their <br />equivalent as approved by EPA: <br />(a) "Volatile halogenated organic compounds in water by purge and trap gas chromatography," 502.1. <br />(b) "Volatile aromatic and unsaturated organic compounds in water by purge and trap gas <br />chromatography," 503.1. <br />(c) "Volatile organic compounds in water by purge and trap gas chromatography/mass spectrometry," <br />524.1. <br />(d) "Volatile organic compounds in water by purge and trap capillary column gas chromatography/mass <br />spectrometry," 524.2. <br />(e) "Volatile organic compounds in water by purge and trap capillary gas chromatography with <br />photoionization and electrolytic conductivity detectors in series," 502.2. <br />(2) The methods specified in Subrule (l) of this Rule aze contained in the publication entitled "Methods for <br />the Determination of Organic Compounds in Finished Drinking Water and Raw Source Water," <br />September, 1986, which is adopted herein by reference and which is available from the Environmental <br />Monitoring and Support Laboratory (EMSL), EPA, Cincinnati, Ohio 45268, at no cost or from the <br />Michigan Department of Public Health, Division of Water Supply, 3423 North Logan Street, P.O. Box <br />30195, Lansing, Michigan 48909, at no cost. The analysis of 1.2dibromo3chloropropane (DBCP) and <br />1,2dibromoethane (EDB) shall be conducted by method 504 entitled "Measurement of 1,2dibromoethane <br />(EDB) and 1?dibromo3chloropropane (DBCP) in Drinking Water by Microextrac[ion and Gas <br />Chromatography," September, 1986, which is adopted herein by reference and which is available from the <br />Environmental Monitoring and Support Laboratory (EMSL), EPA, Cincinnati, Ohio 45268, at no cost or <br />from the Michigan Department of Public Health, Division of Water Supply, 3423 North Logan Street, P.O. <br />Box 30195, Lansing, Michigan 48909, at no cost. <br />(3) Analysis under this Rule shall only be accepted when conducted by Department or EPAcertified or <br />provisionally certified laboratories. <br />R 325.10606 Alternative analytical techniques. <br />Rule 606. With the written permission of the Department, and upon approval by EPA, an alternative <br />analytical technique may be employed. The use of the altemative analytical technique shall no[ decrease <br />the frequency of monitoring required by Part 7. <br />R 325.10607 List of approved alternative analytical techniques; maintenance and availability. <br />Rule 607.
