9~0 METHOD PERFORMANCE
~J
9.1 In a collaborative study of two sets of paired water sample s
containing known additions of radionuclides. 15 laboratories determined the gros s
alpha activity and 16 analyzed gross beta activity. The samples containe d
simulat ed water minerals of approximately 350 mg fixed solids/L. The alph a
results of one laboratory were rejected as outliers.
The average recoveries of added gross alpha activi ty were 86. 87, 84, and
82%. The precision (random error) at the 95% confidence level was 20 and 24% fo r
the two sets of paired samples. The method was biased low, but not seriously.
The average recoveries of added gross beta activity were 99, lOD. 100. an d
100%. The precision (random error) at the 95% confidence level was 12 and 18%
for the two sets of paired samples. The method showed no bias.
10.0 REFERENCES
10.1 None required.
9310 - 8
CD-ROM Revision 0
Date September 1986
