CO 80203
Dear Sirs
[ would like to express my concern about the apphca[ion for a rttining pernvt
on Hwy 194 just east of La Junta by All Rile Paving & Redi Mix. They are planning
to run a sand and gravel operation on the south side of Hwy 194.
I am on the north side of Hwy 194, just across from them. 1 live here, on a small
farm. My family and I have been here since we bought the place in 1976. We
moved here to farm and raise animals and also because we wanted to live here and
raise our children here. It is a rural azea with clean air and a lot of peace and quiet.
You can see a lot of stars, you can see the Sparush Peaks, you can heaz meadow
larks, see red-tailed hawks, deer, and an occasional eagle.
I'm afraid of [he noise pollution, the air pollution (from the inevitable blowing dust),
the water pollution and the traffic. 1 dread the thought of heavy wcks loaded with gravel
competing vvidr the cars, pick-ups and farming equipment on Hwy 194, which is a very
narrow two-lane road with little or no shoulders. We may also experience an increase fn
mosquitoes, if All Rite goes ahead will[ their plan for a large standing pond. T7te lower
(southern) ends of my fields cannot be planted with row crops now because [he vvarer table
is so lugh that it's usually impossible to get a tractor in there. If the large pond is added [o
the current situation, most of the rest of my fields could be lost [o farming.
It looks like the quality of life for those of us who live here will fall significantly. The
environment may be significantly damaged. We may also experience an economic loss to
our fanning and livestock operations S All Rite's application is granted.
The Otero County Planning Commission already denied All Rite's application unanimously.
Please take a sintilar action and protect our little agricultural community.
(Tire site in question is 30000 Hvry 194, La Junta, CO, Sec. 1 ~ 3b, Township 23 & 24 S,
Range 55 W, 6's Prime Meridian.)
Thank you,
~r ~
Judy Hensley
