L.P.
C-81-019
Dear Ms. Crosby:
Recently you have inquired about the West Pit fill monitor well. The purpose of this
letter is to address the current plans for the well.
Colowyo surveying has located the site for the well on the first bench of the fill. In
addition we have made arrangements with the exploration drillers to drill the well as soon as
conditions allow safe access of the drill rig to the bench. Currently, fall moisture has been
sufficient to make the bench muddy and unsafe to operate equipment on.
Usually, December is a cold month and the soil will freeze sufficiently to allow access
to such a site. However, lately the mild fall weather with warm nights and 50 degree days
has not frozen the soil at all. As such, we are currently at the mercy of the weather
conditions before we can access the site.
If the weather gets cold and the sail freezes up, Ova ant:clpate bung able tc dri!I the
well. However,.if the site conditions do not allow safe completion of the well, the
completion will be delayed till next summer. Once the well is completed we will forward a
completion report to the Division.
As usual, we will continue to keep the Division appraised of our progress.
Sincerely, /
J m` es A.
