TR9PPER GIINING INC.
July 27, 1987
Mr. John W. Barton
District Manager
U.S. Dept. of Labor
Mine Safety and Health Administration
P.O. Box 25367
Denver, CO 80225
Dear Mr. Barton:
ii i i ii i ii i ii iiu iii ~ ~
--.~_--
JUL 3 0 ~y~~
MINED LAhID
REClAMA710P1 DIVISION
~or~~
Subject: Required 12-month status report on Coyote Dam Facility
I.D. No. 1211-CO-9-0018
Currently [he water level in Coyote Dam stands a[ an elevaticn of 6,308.4
feet which equals a stage storage of 73 acre-feet. Our annual sediment sur-
vey which was conducted in June after the spring runoff, indicates that we
now have approximately 46.7 acre-feet of sediment. This represents an
increase in sediment volume of 12.2 acre-feet over the pas[ year. We do not
plan any sediment removal in 1987 as the impoundment still provides for our
needs of sediment and water storage volume.
Total storage capacity remains at 120 acre-feet, including sediment. The
average water elevation and depth remains near 6,308 feet and 10.5 feet,
respectively, throughout most of the year with the water elevation and depth
increasing 3 or 4 feet for several weeks in [he spring until the gate valve
is opened and [he water is decanted back to or near the decant elevation of
6,305 feet. Average sediment elevation is near 6,298.5 Feet with a maximum
sediment depth of 13.5 feet along a short stretch of old drainage channel
nearest the dam.
The structural integrity of the dam has remained unchanged and all appur-
tenant structures, including trash racks, decant, valves and discharge C.M.P.
are in place and operating as designed. During 1987, we performed the fol-
lowing work on the impoundment structure:
1) Herbicide applications [o eradicate sagebrush.
2) Mechanical mowing [o eradicate sagebrush on dewns[rea_m toe.
3) Gravel-surfaced the access road.
4) Water elevation gauge repainted and restenciled above 6308 feet.
5) Interseeded downstream dam face.
6) New dam ID number posted on identification sign.
M.
.~

~; / i~:
pc W_ Henderson
CMI,RD
Sincerely,
arding, Jr.
ualified Impoundment
Inspector
P.O.
