There
for desiring this change to the reclama
are listed below:
site conditions of the
that the diversion sho~_tlu"
are a number of reasons
ti on plan. These r•easvns
1. As you are well aware, a significant number of landslides
have occured along Highway 1~ between Meeker and C:~a:n. in so!n:=
areas, they exist ever-y quarter of a mile. Theses landslides a.r•_
caused by the natural ground becoming saturated with water; which
greatly lowers the cohesion of the soils and results in si=p=
instabiii+_y, The reclaimed slopes of the Rienau # ~ minesite will
be up to 70 feet high at a grade of ~H:1'J, By leaving th=
diversion intact above these reclaimed slopes, we will lesser; .i.e
potential of water saturation in the fill, which could pr.=•:~ent ~~
serious slope failure in the future. An analysis of L-h~ slope
stability is enclosed.
2. The botton of the ditch is well vegetated in all places ar:d
the sideslopes are only poorly vegetated in a'few spots.
_. The diversion has been in place for a number of years and etas
_r;perienced ne signs of erosion or instabilit;~.
4. It has been thought that the diversion was installed just
above the disturbed area. This ;s tr~_ie near the offi_c> trailer
area but not near the portal area. In *_he portal area, up to S~~
feet of undisturbed ground exists between tre diversion -,nd the
