'"_ MINED LA~WILDLIFE STATEMENT/EVALUATIO~Revised)
for limited impact and select regular mine applications
The following information pertaining to wildlife is provided for use by Mined Land
Reclamation Board in their consideration of a mining permit for:
MURDOCK GRAVET, PIT
pen Gravel Pit ~ NW'-,SEy Sec. 27, T19S, R44W
and Location of Mine
Wildlife Species list:
Pronghorn
Deer (?)
Pheasant (?)
Scaled Quail
Rabbit
Mourning Dove
Endangered/critical species/impacted:
None that xe are aware of.
Coyote '~ .
Swift Fox
Raptors (transient)
Various nongame Bird, mammal, & reptile spp.
Critical habitats/vegetative communities impacted:
None that xe are aware of.
Assessment of impact:
Minimal, due to it's location in a grazed shortgrass habitat type.
Mine Reclamation recoimnendations (include key species/habitats for which restoration
is designed).
I recommend that the site be graded and sloped to 3:1 or less. Because the pit is
located along a drainage and in an acid area, I also recommend that the bottom, or
at least part of t e pit be sealed xith Bentonite, to help hold rater during xet
years or after heavy Thunderstorms, and provide a xatering hole for xildlife and cattle.
The remainder of the pit should be seeded with grasses that enhance game bird nesting (ie:
Sand Bluestem, Tall Wheat Jose, Switchgrass, and Side Oats Gramma). Yellox Clover and
Ladak Alfalfa are also beneficial. The establishment of brush thickets xould provide
both food and cover for xildlife and is highly recommendsd. Species to plant in order
of preference are Plum, Buffalo berry, Chokecherry, Wild Rose, & Sandhill Cherry. A
maintenanc free system. of planting the shrubs is described by Warren Synder in the
April-P~ay~~ssue of Colorado Outdoors, a Division of Wildlife publication. Although
not as beneficial as shrub thickets, brushpiles can also be used.
Prepared By: ~J/1~~9^~~ l~~iXJ' ~~!/ /~/" / Date:~X~ (P~
Submitted By:~~~o Date: ~ (9Q3
This statement is void if not processed within 1 year.
This analysis does not constitute approval of application.
