ley lands include residential tracts, small businesses, and
sand and gravel quarries. Steeper upland. areas are largely
unused.
The following information regarding the land use on
the CWI property was obtained from Mr. Cliff Vontz, manager
of orchards. CWI owns about 208 acres in the North Fork valley
of which about 170 acres are used for orchards. This area is
divided between production of various fruits in the following
way:
apples 40 x'
cherries 30 7
peaches 15 7 (some apricots)
pears 15 7
The average fruit production from the whole property is about
80 tons per year. A11 CWI orchards are flood-irrigated and the
water supply is provided from CWI water rights on five dif-
ferent sources (irrigation ditches and springs).
According to Mr. L. D. Short, a District Conservation-
ist of the Soil Conservation Service in Delta, Colorado, the
land use as described for the CWI property is quite typical for
the North Fork valley. In this area only a limited acreage of
irrigated land is used for grain and alfalfa production.
Typical views of the alluvium on the CWI property are
shown in Figs. 1 - 7 in Appendix A.
- 10 -
~EO~+noao coaw~nnw, iNC.
