Exhibit)
• Penrose-Rock outczop complex, 25 to 65 percent slopes, occurs on some of the outer
edges of the project area. The native vegetation is mainly plains grasses, yucca, bigelow
sagebrush, juniper and skunkbush: The potential production of the native understory
vegetation in normal yeazs is about 500 pounds of air-dry vegetation per acre. These.
complexes are discussed further in Exhibit I.
SPECIES OF SPECIAL CONCERN
No specific surveys for threatened, endangered, or special-concern species are proposed
at this time. Information indicates no known populations of threatened, endangered, or
special-concern species or critical habitat aze located within the study area. Data sources
include, but are not limited to, contacts with the USFWS, CDOW, Colorado Natural
Heritage Program, and additional published literature. If data indicate to the contrary,
specific surveys will be proposed at that time.
RECLAMATION
The reclamation objective for the project azea is for shortgrass prairielrangeland. Keeping
disturbance to a minimum and controlling the noxious weeds will be necessary.
Prevention of erosion is also necessary. Reseeding with native species that occur on or in
the vicinity of the site will help to control alien species. Long-term diligent management .
of noxious weeds can be accomplished by a combination of biological, chemical,
cultural, and physical methods at the site (CNAP 1998). A grass seed mixture will be
• approved by the Pueblo County Extension Office.
REFERENCES
Colorado Natural Areas Program (CNAP). Native Plant Revegetation Guide for
Colorado.
